It’s Bond vs. Blofeld on a bob run. The climax of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969), was created with the help of former world bobsleigh champion Franz Kapus. The moment where Bond comes out of the bob and slides along the wall was unintentional but was so spectacular it was incorporated into the sequence.
Licence To Kill Tanker Chase
Licence To Kill’s tanker-plane chase was shot on a disused (reputedly haunted) piece of road near Mexicali. For this moment where the five tonne vehicle goes on its side to avoid incoming missiles, a rig was devised to tilt the tanker on its side but proved unnecessary. “The tanker driver (Rémy Julienne) appeared on location — no crash helmet, seat belt or anything,” remembered 2nd unit special effects supervisor Chris Corbould. “He put a ramp up and he just drove up, and he put the tanker on its side. It was quite amazing.”
“Do You Expect Me To Talk?”
The first scene to be filmed on Goldfinger (1964) between Bond and the villain was actually the one with 007 tied to the laser table. Special effects supervisor Cliff Culley said: “They bought a real laser in, which looked great. It had a pencil-thin line, but as soon as you turned all the studio lights on, it disappeared. So John Stears and his special effects team made up this fake one, and we optically put the laser beam on afterwards.”
Bond Versus Scaramanga
Bond. Scaramanga. A fun house. The climax of The Man With The Golden Gun (1974) is a fight to the death between the best in the business — Bond’s Walther has a six shot magazine while Scaramanga’s 4.2mm pistol is a single shot. Interesting fact: Christopher Lee (Scaramanga) was a distant cousin of 007 creator Ian Fleming.

The DB5 And C-X75 Duel In Rome
“I loved the car chase being a one-on-one speed battle, a game of cat and mouse between two of the fastest cars in the world, neither of which had been seen before,” director Sam Mendes on Spectre’s Rome car chase between Bond’s Aston Martin DB10 and Hinx’s Jaguar C-X75.
Acrostar Jet Takes Flight
Bond gets out of a scrape in Octopussy (1983) using the nifty Acrostar ”Bede” Jet. For close-ups of Bond manoeuvring the jet through a hangar, special effects supervisor John Richardson mounted a plane on a pole attached to a stripped-down Jaguar. The car was driven through the hangar at breakneck speed, soldiers running in front of the car to hide the chassis.
Bond’s Mid Air Cargo Net Fight
Not a stunt for anyone with a fear of heights, this showdown in The Living Daylights (1987) was a fist fight on a cargo net hanging from the back of a Hercules. High above the Mojave Desert, stunt performers BJ Worth (Bond) and Jake Lombard (Necros) duked it out hanging from a 1500-pound net flying at 100 knots and 6,500 feet. A safety man was on standby ready to leap out and deploy specially disguised parachutes.
Die Another Day Hovercraft Chase
Shot at Eelmoor Tank Driving Range in Aldershot, England, the Die Another Day (2002) hovercraft chase through the North Korean Demilitarised Zone was directed by 007 action unit legend Vic Armstrong. The hovercraft itself, a Griffon 2000TD, proved difficult to handle. “It’s like driving a bar of soap,” recalled Pierce Brosnan.
Wet Nellie Goes Underwater
Today’s clip from The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) features one of 007’s most iconic cars – the Lotus Esprit S1 affectionately known as “Wet Nellie”. For the underwater sequences, a miniature Lotus was guided through the clear waters of the Bahamas on ultra-thin wires.
Easter Eggs And Bond
Today’s clip has to be from Octopussy (1983). The Fabergé eggs seen on screen were created by renowned jewellers Asprey’s of London.
Skyfall Turkey Shoot
“Take the bloody shot!” For the Skyfall (2012) train chase Daniel Craig (James Bond) and Ola Rapace (Patrice) performed their own stunts attached to safety wires while the train was travelling at 40mph.
Producer Barbara Broccoli said: “Daniel’s the reason why the action works as well as it does because he sells it, he’s up there and I think audiences know that.”
